After watching the movie The Black Stallion, Richard had a mid-life epiphany that he was supposed to do something with horses. He left a big city lifestyle and job as a hospital administrator behind, moved to Fauquier County where he and his wife, Joan, started a horse farm in Warrenton, Virginia from scratch and has never looked back. Richard then tweaked his career to operate the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center at Morven Park for the next 30 years where he now continues to serve on its board of directors. During that time, Richard and Joan raised two daughters teaching them the responsibilities of caring for horses while learning to ride and compete, as well as the enjoyment that comes with an equestrian/country lifestyle.
In 2018, Richard began a new career in real estate that was just an extension of his involvement with people who enjoy living in a country setting. It turned out to be a great decision especially after he joined Middleburg Real Estate | Atoka Properties. The firm’s unique brand attracts the type of clients he really enjoys working with where his skills and experiences can help them achieve their dreams. There is nothing more satisfying to Richard than introducing someone to our surrounding countryside and the unique and diverse lifestyle that awaits.
Richard has a variety of experiences in real estate including property development, managing architectural design, custom home construction, and commercial and historic restorations. He recognizes that people aspiring to live in the Virginia Hunt Country have a variety of needs and interests which can span from purchasing or renting a simple starter home, to acquisition of a historic property requiring restoration. Those interest may extend to finding a small commercial property to establish a business, the right land parcel to construct their dream home, or a seven-figure horse or farm property on extensive acreage.
Richard is who clients place their trust in as someone that understands them and the area, and who knows the right questions to ask based upon the type of purchase or sale. He knows how easy it would be to miss one important factor that defines whether the property is the right or wrong choice for the client, such as if the property has access to broadband internet.
Whatever your dream, Richard is ready to work together, ask all the right questions, and make your next real estate experience with Middleburg Real Estate | Atoka Properties the best and most satisfying!
