While we understand the importance of home ownership, we also recognize that we are not just in business to sell houses but to build communities through lasting relationships with homeowners who become neighbors, friends – and when the time comes – repeat clients.
Founded in 1939, our real estate firm is one of the oldest in the region. Middleburg Real Estate has always been a name that goes hand in hand with hunt country, and we take great pride in the firm’s longevity and legacy of success from its corporate office in the center of Middleburg, VA.
While Middleburg Real Estate | Atoka Properties (MRE | AP) remains mindful of our past, one of the keys to our success is a focus on not only the here and now, but also the future. We continually monitor and evaluate technology and market trends to harness the best tools for the benefit of our clients. We have sought out, and invested in, both a team of knowledgeable, professional REALTORS® that are beyond reproach, and the outstanding talent that makes up our support staff. All this to bring simply the best service to our clients.
Although Middleburg Real Estate changed ownership a few times since 1939, the shift to the current ownership began in November of 2009 when the company was purchased from Chris Malone by Dan Kaseman, Scott Buzzelli, and Peter Pejacsevich. At that time, Scott and Peter were working with Long & Foster under the team name of Atoka Properties. With the Middleburg office remaining as the main office of the now established MRE | AP brand, the Purcellville office opened in December of 2012 and the Leesburg office shortly thereafter in July of 2013. By May of 2016, a fourth office location was opened in Ashburn. REALTORS® working from the Middleburg Office used the Middleburg Real Estate branding, while the REALTORS® in the other offices used the Atoka Properties branding.
By 2018, the MRE | AP brand came to represent so much more than equine-property expertise. Our clientele were looking for single-family homes, condos, townhouses, farmland, as well as countryside estates of all sizes in an ever-growing radius from DC. It became apparent that our branding needed to evolve to include the variety of clients we represent.
In January of 2019, Scott and Peter became the sole owners of MRE | AP and released a rebrand to reflect a forward-thinking mentality. Although we continue to use the MRE and AP brands as before the logos were redesigned with a cohesive look in order to evoke a sense of the same full service company that is behind both names.
On the heels of this strategic rebrand, MRE | AP was poised for additional growth. In 2020 we opened our Charles Town office expanding into the neighboring Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. We rounded out 2021 with offices in Marshall and Maryland, bringing the ability to serve clients in three states from six offices to eight.
Don't be misled, true to our history we still represent hunt country and rural homes. But that knowledge now extends from the DC Metro area into West Virginia and Maryland. Our clients run the gamut from first-time buyers to high-wealth individuals looking for multi-million dollar estates. Through our agents’ broad expertise, and our geographically diverse office locations, we are well-positioned to assist virtually any buyer or seller.
Each office location was carefully selected to function as an integral part of the local community. Our agents pride themselves on being local experts, so it is important to us to have office locations that are very visible in their communities.
Middleburg
Middleburg is rightly associated with equine events, celebrities, statesmen, and sports figures. MRE | AP has been associated with sales and listings of properties once owned by such luminaries as Paul & Bunny Mellon, Jack & Jackie Kennedy, Muhammad Ali, and Abe Pollin, the late owner of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and the NBA’s Washington Wizards.
But don’t be intimidated. The Middleburg area, including The Plains, Upperville, Aldie, Marshall, Delaplane, Paris, Bluemont, and Round Hill attracts people from all walks of life. What they share is an appreciation of the beauty of the land; the rolling hills and mountains; the country lanes and the sense of community and camaraderie. It’s unique: residents in this part of the world aren’t interested in “keeping up with the Joneses;” they are interested in sharing their interests with the Joneses.
Leesburg
If Middleburg seems laid back, there is plenty of hustle and bustle in the eastern part of Loudoun. While Leesburg has an appealing old town feel, the area has grown by leaps and bounds offering benefits such as upscale supermarkets, theater complexes, fine health-care options, upscale office space, and all the rest. The area also offers a variety of housing options, from condos, to historic in-town homes, to mature and new suburban areas, and MRE | AP agents know these market segments well.
Purcellville
Purcellville was settled in 1764 and in 1853 was named after Valentine Purcell who established the town’s first post office. The old town area, which houses our office, is home to many historic buildings. Purcellville enjoys a thriving downtown area, and the surrounding countryside is home to many wineries and breweries. Residents enjoy a fine mix of small town and rural living that is still close to a plethora of shopping and dining options, as well as Dulles Airport.
Ashburn
Ashburn is home to many families of commuters and high-tech businesses. Many major and minor subdivisions, that include single family homes and townhouses, make up the majority of dwellings in the Ashburn community. We opened our fourth office in November of 2016 in beautiful Goose Creek Village located on Sycolin Road, and in 2021 moved across the street to a new location on Generation Drive.
Charles Town
Charles Town is named after Charles Washington, brother of George Washington, and many of the Washington siblings owned homes and farms in the area. Our Charles Town office is located in the active downtown historic district. Our REALTORS® cater to long-time residents, as well as those who are new to the charms (and value for their real estate dollar) offered in the scenic Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.
Marshall
Marshall is located in the heart of Hunt Country and was named for United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall whose ancestral home is nearby. Our Marshall location is the office of long-time Marshall resident and real estate expert, Anne Michael Greene who joined MRE | AP in 2021. Her family has owned the building for many years.
Maryland
Our expansion into Maryland was a natural one given that it is an integral part of the DC metro area. While we do not have a physical office at this time, from the rolling farmland, to suburbs, to city - our team covers it all.
Middleburg Real Estate | Atoka Properties is an ever-growing company with the core values of volunteer community involvement, top-notch service, and a pledge to adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards for our clients and colleagues.
We work diligently to build a recognizable brand people want to work for and with, and to develop exceptional agents with sustainable businesses and champion their success, both personally and professionally. We are stewards of our communities and environment – working to preserve our history and unique quality of life. Our mission is to facilitate real estate transactions that are beyond reproach.
